a line that shows all numbers placed in their correct positions.

When subtracting numbers, you move to the left on the number line.

positive

having to do with quantities greater than zero.

You want your bank account to show a positive number, not a negative one!

negative

having to do with quantities less than zero.

I played the game so badly that I ended up with a final score of negative 15 points!

integer

a positive whole number, it's negative or zero.

-10, 10, and 0 are all examples of integers.

absolute value

the (always positive) distance of a quantity from zero; the magnitude of a quantity, no matter its sign.

This number is -10, but it has an absolute value of 10.
